Tim Love and Journalists Celebrate Fort Worth Food

Food writers from around the US experience Cowtown

Celebrity Chef Tim Love helped host a group of travel journalists so they could experience Fort Worth’s best in food.

“For me I think that it is high time that we started highlighting what happens here in our city. Fort Worth is a spectacular place,” said Love who added that having the opportunity to have travel writers in town to talk up Cowtown elates him.

The journalists spent three days restaurant hopping taking in the best eats and cowboy culture.

The first stop was Love’s newest restaurant the Woodshed Smokehouse along the Trinity River.

“Well, I’m wondering if I have started at the very top. The food here is amazing with smoked meats and smoked ice in drinks,” said Annette Thompson who is a freelance travel journalist from Birmingham, Alabama.

She and the others have a packed schedule that was filled with Fort Worth’s Fred’s, The Modern, coffee shops and more.

“You want to go to those places that are unique. Like this restaurant here could only be here on the banks of the Trinity River and can only taste like this right here. You can’t pick this up and move this down to Austin or up to Chicago,” said Thompson.

Tim Love feels the same and was excited to host the group a second time at his Stockyards staple Lonesome Dove.

“What we want to do is take people to where we can embrace those cultures and take that kind of cuisine and elevate it to more exciting and fun things,” said Love.

Merianne Roth with the Fort Worth Convention and Visitor’s Bureau says tourism brought in almost 1.5 billion dollars in 2010 and wants travelers’ interest in food to bring in more.

“It’s not something that has been talked about a lot outside of Fort Worth. I think Fort Worthians know that, but we’re looking for opportunities to share that,” said Roth.
