Texas Teacher Quits, Allegedly Recited Sexual Poem in Class

A Southeast Texas teacher has resigned amid allegations that he recited a sexually explicit poem to some high school students during class.

Officials with the Nederland Independent School District declined to release the name of the teacher. His resignation was accepted Friday.

The principal of Nederland High School, Steven Beagle, released a statement saying district officials first learned of the recent incident on Wednesday. The teacher was then suspended.

Beagle says the teacher used inappropriate language in class.

Some parents complained after learning about the poem allegedly was recited to members of a freshman class.

Nederland is 80 miles east of Houston.
