Sales tax break time kicked off Friday morning in Texas.
The state's annual sales tax holiday runs through Sunday as children prepare to return to school.
The Texas law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax. That adds up to about $8 on every $100 spent on certain purchases this weekend.
Shopping centers like Grand Prairie Premium Outlets said they are extending their hours so customers can shop longer. They also have bigger discounts that range from 25 percent to 65 percent.
The tax break does not extend to some items, such as jewelry, purses and luggage.
Comptroller Susan Combs estimates shoppers will save nearly $83 million in state and local sales taxes this weekend.
Qualifying purchases can be done in stores, online or from catalog sellers that do business in Texas, which began sales tax break weekend in 1999.
