Texas Parks & Wildlife Unveils New $5 Million Helicopter

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has a new $5 million high-tech helicopter with better capabilities to transport personnel and search dogs.

The Airbus AS350 B3e helicopter was unveiled Tuesday in Austin.

Department spokesman Steve Lightfoot says the chopper replaces an older helicopter that has been out of service for more than a year. Lightfoot says the new Airbus includes a rescue hoist, a thermal imager, satellite communications and night vision capabilities.

Lt. Craig Hunter says the helicopter will be a tremendous asset to Texas game wardens.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department also has an airplane, a 2009 Cessna 206.
