Texas Officer, Good Samaritans Rescue Driver in Burning Car

A College Station officer and some good Samaritans have saved a driver from a burning car in a rescue captured on police car video.

University of Texas student Jose Izquierdo was in fair condition Friday at a Houston hospital, nearly a week after the accident. Izquierdo suffered broken bones last Saturday when his car hit a tree and caught fire.

The video shows Officer Patricia Marty running from her patrol car and trying to extract the 21-year-old driver.

Two Texas A&M University transportation services workers stopped to help. One had a sledgehammer and tried to break a back window amid flames. Another man happened by and with the others helped pulled Izquierdo through the driver's window.

Izquierdo is at Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute. Marty was treated for smoke inhalation.
