A wildfire burning on about 200 acres outside of the Central Texas town of Smithville has prompted the voluntary evacuation of a state park, a research center and homes.
Texas A&M Forest Services spokeswoman Kari Hines says the fire that started midday Tuesday was burning on ranchland outside of town and was about 10 percent contained.
She says no structures are currently threatened but Buescher State Park and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's Science Park voluntarily evacuated. She says homes were also being voluntarily evacuated, but did not immediately know how many.
She says bulldozers and aircraft were helping to help fight the fire.
Hines says it was one of several that started Tuesday in Bastrop County, which was experiencing low humidity and a lack of moisture.
