The death toll from a powerful storm that struck East Texas Saturday grew to four, when a woman initially counted among those injured died from her injuries Sunday.

The two children, an 8-year-old and a 3-year-old were killed Saturday when strong winds toppled a tree onto the back of their family's car in Lufkin, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office said.

Capt. Alton Lenderman said the parents, who were in the front seats, were not injured.

The woman who died Sunday was among at least 25 people injured when a suspected tornado struck the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site in Alto.

Alto Police Chief Jeremy Jackson said the injuries occurred during a Native American cultural event, while Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell said at least eight of those were injured critically.

Damage to the town's schools has prompted the Alto Independent School District to cancel all classes until its buildings have been found to be safe.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office also confirmed one person was killed in Weches, Texas, about six miles southwest of Caddo Mound.
