Texas Man Who Hoped to Join ISIS Gets 82 Months in Prison

A 24-year-old Austin man has been sentenced to 82 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges he sought to join the Islamic State group.

Prosecutors say he planned to travel overseas to participate in violent jihad.

Michael Wolfe, also known as Faruq, will be on probation for five years under the sentence Friday from U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks.

He pleaded guilty last year to attempting to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization.

Wolfe was arrested at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport last June. Prosecutors say he ticketed to fly to Toronto, then Iceland and Denmark, and planned to reach Syria to join ISIS.

He'd contacted someone he believed could get him to Syria through Turkey.  His contact was an FBI undercover agent.
