Texas Man Must Serve Life for Killing Parents

A Houston-area man must serve life in prison for the 2014 shooting deaths of his parents at the couple's home.

Ryan Walton pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of murder and was sentenced in a plea deal over the slayings at an upscale residence near Katy. The 23-year-old son originally was indicted on a capital murder charge in the deaths of 54-year-old Michael Walton and 52-year-old Lynda Walton.

Investigators say the son was in his mother's vehicle when he was arrested in the Rosenberg area, about 20 miles south of Katy.

Records show Walton initially was found incompetent for trial. Medical evaluations determined he had schizophrenia. He was later ruled competent.
