Texas Live!, New Ballpark Construction Moving Along

Construction of Texas Live! and the new Globe Life Park in Arlington is moving right along.

Texas Sky Ranger was over the area Thursday where development where the frame for Texas Live! is beginning to take shape and where crews and bulldozers were preparing the ground for the new stadium.

The new ballpark, which will cost an estimated $1.1 billion and have a retractable roof, is scheduled to open in 2020.

The groundbreaking for the new ballpark took place at the site of the new stadium's home plate, which was formerly the back of Parking Lot B, on Sept. 28.

Officials with the city of Arlington, the Texas Rangers and Major League Baseball broke ground on the team's new $1.1 billion stadium Thursday, Sept. 27, 2017.

Rangers executives call the designs of the new retractable roof stadium "truly amazing."

"It opens a world of possibilities to us," Rangers Executive Vice President of Business Operations Rob Matwick said. "We want it to be the best Major League Baseball facility that there is."

The stadium is slated to open before the start of the 2020 season.

The City of Arlington will cover $500 million of the total cost. Voters there overwhelmingly approved extending a package of tax increases that had been used to pay for the construction of AT&T Stadium.
