Texas Inmate Set for Lethal Injection Wednesday

Tomorrow's execution makes four to date for the Lonestar State

With his back turned and writing on a piece of paper, security guard Brian Williams never saw Gayland Bradford come up behind him at a Dallas grocery store.

As seen on a surveillance video, Bradford pulls a pistol, says nothing and without warning shoots the 29-year-old Williams in the back. He fires three more times at the mortally wounded Williams, then yells for a companion who joins him in trying to take cash from a register.

They left with $7 taken from Williams, who died about an hour later.

Bradford is set for lethal injection Wednesday evening in Huntsville for the December 1988 slaying.

The U.S. Supreme Court last week refused to reconsider his appeals, clearing the way for him to become the fourth Texas inmate executed this year.
