Texas Gov. Rick Perry has blasted Congress for failing to respond to the immigration surge on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The House on Thursday abandoned a vote on Republican-proposed legislation to address the immigration crisis on the border after a tea party revolt minutes from a vote on the legislation. The revolt left House Speaker John Boehner no choice but to pull his border bill from the floor hours from the scheduled House adjournment for the summer.

The revolt came after the tea partyers strategized over pizza with firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

The GOP fracturing dismayed Perry, a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate who last week announced he was dispatching National Guard troops to the border.

In a statement, he said, "Congress should not go into recess until the job is completed."

The legislation could have provided $659 million and made easier the deportation of children from Central America now flooding into the United States.
