Texas Assistant Warden Suspended After Prison Guard Killed

An assistant warden has been suspended and a guard and two food service managers have been recommended for dismissal after a male inmate at a West Texas state prison killed a female guard.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said Wednesday that Assistant Warden Jimmy Webb of the Robertson Unit near Abilene was suspended for seven days and placed on four months' probation. Clark said dismissal has been recommended for correctional officer Maj. Edward McQuade and food service managers Gregory Cruse and Patrick Roach.

Clark says the moves were taken after a department investigation found some security procedures weren't being followed.

A kitchen worker is accused of killing correctional officer Mari Johnson on July 16.

The disciplinary measures were first reported by KTXS-TV of Abilene.
