Texas Assistant Coach Seeks Dismissal of Oklahoma State Suit

Texas assistant football coach Joe Wickline is asking a judge to dismiss Oklahoma State's efforts to force him to pay nearly $600,000 for his move to the Longhorns.

In a court motion filed this week in Oklahoma, Wickline says sworn statements from Texas coach Charlie Strong, offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and Wickline prove that he has some play-calling duties.

That was a necessary detail in his contract with Oklahoma State if Wickline wanted to leave for another school without having to pay damages.

Oklahoma State sued Wickline in 2014, arguing that Watson is really Texas' play caller.

The depositions by the Texas coaches described a complicated -- and sometimes confusing -- sideline scenario of discussions between Wickline and Watson when the Longhorns are trying to get plays to the quarterback.
