A Texas convicted felon who faked being an Army Ranger to get close to acclaimed retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell faces up to 10 years in prison for having guns.
Daniel Lee Marshall of Conroe pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, involving a semi-automatic rifle and a shotgun. Federal prosecutors in Houston say the investigation started with Luttrell's complaint of a pistol stolen
Authorities determined Marshall, who prosecutors say posed as an ex-special forces operator, had a forgery conviction. Officers in April confiscated weapons from his home. Luttrell's gun was recovered.
Luttrell, who was awarded the Navy Cross, is the only SEAL survivor of a June 2005 firefight with the Taliban in Afghanistan. His best-selling book "Lone Survivor" became a movie starring Mark Wahlberg.
