Teen Charged With ‘Terroristic Threat' on Snapchat

Juvenile faces third-degree felony charge

A teen faces a felony charge Thursday morning after threatening to shoot people at Rowlett High School, authorities say.

Police said a parent called and said her child told her a student with a gun was headed to Rowlett High School on a bus and intended to shoot people.

The 15-year-old Garland Independent School District student made the threat on Snapchat, according to police.

Officers located the student, who was not identified, with the help of a classmate at Rowlett High School.

It took officers about 10 minutes to find him in the school, police said.

Police said the student admitted to making the statement on social media but added that he did not intend to shoot anyone. The student was not in possession of a weapon, despite the initial claim.

"High school students should know that any threats made against a person or the school will be immediately investigated and criminal charges will be filed if probable cause is established," police said in a statmeent. "Students are encouraged to report any school threats to the police immediately. 'Hear something, say something.'"

The teen was processed at a juvenile facility Thursday. He faced charges of making a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony.

No further information was released.
