TCU's Howard Named To Butkus Award List

TCU linebacker Travin Howard has been named to the Butkus Award watch list, given to the nation’s top linebacker.

Howard began last season as a back-up safety before making the move to linebacker. He was honorable-mention All-Big 12 and 2016 Valero Alamo Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player. Howard led the Horned Frogs with 105 tackles with three forced fumbles, a sack and an interception. He had a career-high 19 tackles in the 28-21 rain-soaked overtime win over Baylor last November.

The junior from Longview is also on the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists, both presented to the top defensive player in the country.

Howard will be a big part of a defense that could be loaded this season, with seven starters returning a as well as four additional starters who suffered season-ending injuries a year ago.

TCU’s season opener is September 3 in Fort Worth against South Dakota State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Amon Carter Stadium.
