Tarrant County, Corpus Christi Prisoners Get Execution Dates

Death row inmates from Corpus Christi and Fort Worth have received execution dates for early next year.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark says the agency has received court orders setting 32-year-old John Henry Ramirez for lethal injection Feb. 2 for the 2004 slaying of a Corpus Christi convenience store clerk. The victim, 45-year-old Pablo Castro, was stabbed 29 times during a $1.25 robbery.

Set for execution March 14 is 61-year-old James Bigby for the slayings of a 4-month-old boy and the child's father during a Christmas Eve 1987 rampage that also left two other people dead. Bigby confessed to shooting Mike Trekell at his Arlington home and drowning Trekell's infant son Jayson in a sink.

Ramirez and Bigby are among nine Texas inmates with execution dates.
