Tarleton State University Officials Announce Expansion

Tarleton State University officials announced a major expansion in Fort Worth Monday morning.

The announcement — delivered at Sundance Square — includes 80 acres of land donated by the Walton Group of Companies along the newly constructed Chisholm Trail Parkway.

University officials said they plan to seek $55 million in state funding to construct a 125,000 square-foot building on the site for classrooms, student services and administration. They university currently leases space in several buildings in Fort Worth.

Tarleton State University President Dominic Dottavio said he's confident they will receive the money.

"We have had tremendous support from our state legislatures and we believe there is a tremendous amount of support forthcoming in the next legislative session," he said. "So we tend to be very optimistic and very hopeful that we will receive the funding necessary to begin construction on the first building during this upcoming legislative session."

University officials said they hope they are able to open the new campus within the next two or three years.
