Tamale Eating Championship Registration is Now Open

How many tamales do you think you could eat? The Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship is back in Lewisville and will award the top six tamale eaters in the competition with cash prizes.

Registration for the extreme eating contest is now open online.

The contest starts at 1 p.m. on September 30 at the Lewisville City Hall. In addition to the tamale eating contest, there will be music and entertainment at the festival.

The current world record for this contest is held by Joey "Jaws" Chestnut. Chestnut ate a whopping 102 tamales in 12 minutes at the Lewisville competition in 2012.

This competition is hosted by Major League Eating, which hosts other eating contests like Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

You can find more information about the event on Major League Eating's website.
