Sylvan Avenue Bridge to Close Saturday

Bridge to be completed, reopened in the spring of 2014

The Texas Department of Transportation will close Sylvan Avenue between Irving Boulevard and Morris Street beginning Saturday through the spring of 2014.

The road is being closed so that bridge construction can continue over the Trinity River.

TxDOT said the adjacent Trammell Crow Park will also be closed during construction.  The Sylvan Avenue Boat Launch were closed earlier this year -- both the boat launch and park will reopen once the bridge is completed.

The new bridge will raise Sylvan Avenue above the floodplain by constructing one continuous bridge between the levees.

"Portable message boards will be placed in advance to inform the public of this upcoming closure. Detour routes will be clearly marked," TxDOT said in a news release Monday. "This vital project will provide a new bridge across the last of the Dallas streets low water crossings. When it is complete, the new bridge will allow transportation between downtown and west Dallas to flow across the Trinity River consistently without the threat of floodwaters closing the road."

The new $42.3 million bridge is expected to open in the spring of 2014.
