Subway Employee Argues with Robbers, Fatally Shot: Dallas Police

A Subway employee is dead after police said he refused to comply with two armed people trying to rob the restaurant overnight. [[307337051 ,C]]

Dallas police said two men went into the Subway restaurant in the 600 block of Illinois Avenue near Zang Boulevard at 10:52 p.m. Sunday and demanded money from the employees.

One of the employees — 28-year-old Leonardo Ortega — argued with the robbers and refused to give them money, police said. One of the armed men subsequently shot him three times in the torso.

Police said the other employee gave the robbers money after the shooting. The robbers then ran from the restaurant. 

Ortega was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. He was later pronounced dead.

Ortega's sister, Vanessa, said he was a musician who had so much to live for.

"My brother wouldn't hurt a fly," she told NBC 5. "He was the most harmless person ever."

Police are looking for three men in this shooting, the two who were inside the store and another one who was waiting outside, according to DPD.

Police released surveillance video that was captured from the shopping center. They said the video isn't good quality, but are asking anyone with formation to call Dallas police or Crime Stopppers at 214-373-TIPS.

Oak Farms Dairy is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the persons responsible. Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $5,000 reward.
