School officials say Rockwall Independent School District campuses are safe after a student clown hoax resulted in an arrest.
According to the Rockwall Police Department, a clown threat was posed on a social media website directed at Utley Middle School in Rockwall Tuesday.
School officials immediately began an investigation and discovered a student made the post as a hoax.
The student was taken into custody and charged with making a terroristic threat due to the nature of the post. The students name has not been released.
Rockwall police recognize the extra attention similar clown sightings and threats have been to local communities. However, the Rockwall Police Department said they have not found anything that would indicate a credible threat to students or the community.
Anyone who receives such threat or observes any suspicious activity should contact the Rockwall Police Department.
A recent string of "clown hoaxes" related to threats have been reported across the country.
