Street Race May Be to Blame for Car Crash: Police

Witnesses said the crash sounded "like an explosion"

Police are working to find out if a street race led to a crash that sent two to the hospital on Friday night.

Arlington Police said two men were speeding in their cars down Pioneer Parkway when they collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Sherry Street. Police believed the men may have been racing.

"It was just mayhem all over out here," James Yarborough told NBC 5's Ellen Bryan. "There were pieces of car everywhere."

The two people inside that car were taken to a local hospital, one with serious injuries. Police said one of the other drivers tried to run, but both were arrested.

Witnesses said speeding is nothing unusual for the road.

"Every day there's somebody cruising through here. They act like they're going to the Indy 500," Yarborough said.

Police did not state if any charges will be filed, and the names of those involved were not released.
