Many North Texans woke up Thursday morning to damage caused by wind, hail and lightning from overnight storms.
Parts of Denton and Collin counties were blanketed with hail Wednesday night, with some stones the size of golf balls. The National Weather Service said the storm north of Dallas moved on by early Thursday, leading to a forecast of mostly sunny skies with highs in the 60s.
Several vehicles parked at the Highwood Apartment Homes in Plano were damaged. Resident Debbie Boyd’s back windshield was smashed out. She told NBCDFW the sound of the hail was terrifying.
"Like boulders being thrown at the building," she said. "It sounded to me like what you would say a whole football team running on the rooftop [would sound like]."

Resident Emanuel Torres said the storm moved past as he was working at his home office. After the hail fell for what he estimated was 10 to 15 minutes, many of the complex residents went outside to survey damage.
No injuries were immediately reported.

The storm follows a downpour of hail last week in parts of North Texas. The Insurance Council of Texas estimates damage from last week's hailstorm in the Fort Worth area will reach $600 million in auto and property claims.
The National Weather Service received reports of golf ball-sized hail in East Plano. Several car dealerships along Plano Parkway reported hail damaging vehicles.
