MESQUITE MURDER-SUICIDE
A brother and sister who lived in Mesquite are now staying with relatives after the death of their parents, Godfrey Spain, 52, and Irene Haggerty, 46. Investigators said it appears as if a murder-suicide took place overnight in the 2600 block of Bandera Place. Haggerty's body was found near a set of stairs leading up to the second floor of the home. She had signs of blunt force trauma. Spain's body was located upstairs where he had apparently hanged himself. The Dallas County Medical Examiner is working to rule on the official cause of death for the pair. The children were not home at the time of the incident.
STING TARGETS FOREIGN-BORN GANG MEMBERS
Members of various North Texas law enforcement agencies, and federal agents, made 105 arrests during an operation designed to track down foreign-born gang members. The five-day sting targeted gang members and gang associates. Arrests were made in Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Carrollton, Irving, Farmers Branch and Lake Worth. Specifically, officers were after gang members who engaged in organized criminal activity. Many already had warrants out for their arrest or were already facing charges. Fifty-seven of those arrested are from Mexico and three of those arrested had previously been deported. Officers also seized drugs, guns and money during the sting.
FATAL CRASH IN FORT WORTH
One person was killed in an overnight crash in Fort Worth. Police were called to the 2400 block of Joel East Road just after 2:30 Monday morning. When they arrived they discovered a vehicle wrapped around a utility pole and the only person inside had been killed. Early indications suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the pole.
MAN FOUND DEAD IN CAR IN FORT WORTH
Police and paramedics were called to the 5000 block of Granbury Road in Fort Worth early Monday morning. When they arrived the found a man inside a car with front-end damage. Officers say it appears as if the man has been in the parking lot of the South Cliff Shopping Center for some time. The cause of death is under investigation.
