State School Employee Personal Information Published Online

The Texas Association of School Boards is warning thousands of public school employees that their personal information may have recently been exposed online.

Applications used by the TASB to report wages to the Texas Workforce Commission were published online, exposing employee names, social security numbers and wages.

More than 800 public school districts across Texas were affected, including the Fort Worth Independent School District, Plano Independent School District, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District and the Arlington Independent School District.

A TASB statement to NBC DFW read, in part, "TASB is taking a variety of corrective actions including a comprehensive review of all electronic resources that contain sensitive information, increasing the frequency and scope of security scans, and expanding security training for staff."

The length of time the information was visible varied by district.

Letters sent to affected employees offered a hotline for questions and a one-year membership to a credit and identity theft protection service.
