Stabbing Suspect May Have Fled to Mexico, Police Say

The suspect in a fatal stabbing in Irving may have fled to Mexico, police say.

Irving police said 19-year-old Octavio Lopez-Lara stabbed Osvaldo Medoza to death after an altercation between two groups of people on a Dallas roadway.

Lopez-Lara's group followed Mendoza's group to the 2900 block of Proctor Street where police said Lopez-Lara approached the victim and stabbed him several times with a knife before leaving the scene.

Mendoza was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he later died.

"Detectives believe that Lopez-Lara fled to Guanajuato, Mexico shortly after the crime to avoid capture; however, anyone with information as to his exact whereabouts is asked to contact the Irving Police Department," police said in a statement Friday.

An active warrant for Lopez-Lara's arrest remains with bond set at $2 million.
