A South Texas elected official has pleaded no contest in a theft-related case and resigned over his alleged personal use of county-owned farm equipment.
San Patricio County Commissioner Jim Price on Thursday pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of abuse of official capacity.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports Price was sentenced to a year in jail, which was suspended, and he must serve the time as probation. The 57-year-old Price also repaid the county more than $18,000 as part of the plea agreement.
Texas Rangers arrested Price on July 28 on a felony charge of theft by a public servant. Price was accused of having two pieces of county-owned farm equipment on his land.
Price had been a county commissioner, based in Aransas Pass, since 2003.
