Some Customers of Elephant Bar Face Potential Data Breach

The owner of the Dallas-based Elephant Bar restaurant chain said a potential data breach could affect customers in seven states who paid with credit or debit cards.

CM Ebar said the security incident involves nearly 30 Elephant Bar locations. The chain on Tuesday apologized for the apparent breach and urged customers to review their card statements.

Elephant Bar was alerted by its card processor Nov. 3 about illegal software found on payment processing systems in certain restaurants.

The sites included 20 locations in California, three in Colorado, two in Arizona and one in Florida, Missouri, New Mexico and Nevada. The purchases were between Aug. 12 and Dec. 4.

CM Ebar said they disabled the malware and have taken steps to upgrade security. Customers can call 1-866-578-5412 for additional information.
