Some Clinics, Pharmacies Low on Flu Vaccine Supply

Flu vaccines have become scarce in many doctors' offices across North Texas.

“We are totally out of adult flu vaccines and we have not been able to find any,” said Dr. Gerald Harder, with Southlake Family Medicine.

The Southlake family practice ran out of influenza vaccines last week.

“We’ve had, once the flu season kicked in, more and more people wanting to get their flu vaccine, and came in and used up our supply that we had," said Harder.

Many pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens, still have an ample supply of flu shots though shortages will occur when the vaccine is in high demand.

Dougherty's Pharmacy in North Dallas is one health provider that has already exhausted its vaccine supply for the year.

Dallas County Health and Human Services still have about 1,000 adult vaccines and 2,500 children vaccines available.

“We don’t want anyone to think that we’re out of the flu season yet," said Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Zachary Thompson. “It’s still flu season, get the flu shot."

Other North Texas counties report having flu vaccines available, although Denton County said its supply is starting to run low.
