Snow Day for Some North Texas Schools

Several North Texas School districts decided to call off school on Monday after Sunday's snowfall.

Neither of the two major independent school districts, Dallas or Fort Worth, had called a snow day as of 4:30 a.m. Monday. Both districts usually make their accessment in the morning before school buses begin running their routes.

Most of the districts that did call off school were north and east of the Metroplex where the snowfall was heaviest; and where temperatures had dropped below freezing and where freezing drizzle was expected to continue falling overnight possibly making for treacherous travel.

NBCDFW and NBC 5 offer a free automated system for school, business and church closings and delays that can be accessed online and over the phone for school and business administrators.

But North Texas school children and parents don't have to wait for the crawl during the news to find out if their district is closed. NBCDFW offers email and SMS alerts for school, business and church closings. All you have to do is CLICK HERE to sign up and when your school, business, daycare or church closes, a text message or email will be sent to your mobile device or email inbox.

NBCDFW will not sign up new clients during an inclement weather event, so please sign up before your school or business needs to use our free closing service.
