The Texas Department of Public Safety unveiled a new design for driver’s licenses and identification cards.
“The changes will give law enforcement improved resources for verifying the authenticity of Texas- issued driver licenses and identification cards, while combating counterfeiting, photo swapping, tampering and other types of fraud,” said DPS Director Col. Stanley E. Clark.
The licenses and ID cards contain numerous security features, which DPS will not discuss publicly.
The cards contain an image of the Texas Capitol on the right hand side and the Austin skyline across the top.

DPS began production of the new cards April 15 for anyone receiving or renewing.
For drivers under 21, licenses will continue to be issued in a vertical format, unlike the horizontal ones issued to others.
