Small Plane that Crashed into Texas Cement Plant was Stolen

Police say a small plane that crashed into the silo of a West Texas cement plant had been reported stolen from a Midland airport.

Officials on Tuesday said the pilot who died in the June 1 crash worked for the company that owned the plane, which was used to inspect pipelines. The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the pilot as 45-year-old Clayton Ray Chennault of Goldsmith.

Police were called to Midland Airpark on a report that a Cessna 150 was stolen and might have crashed. The single-engine plane hit the Cemex plant, near Odessa, in a nighttime crash. The wreckage ended up hanging from a tower.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Chennault was alone onboard.
