Sixth Flu-Related Death Confirmed in Denton County

Health officials in Denton County confirmed Friday their sixth flu-related death of the season.

Officials have not yet released any information about the patient other than that he or she was an adult.

After reporting a downward trend in flu activity last week, the DCHD said there were 75 positive influenza tests and six hospitalizations this week.  The county said the geographic spread of influenza activity level for Texas remained at "regional" last week.

Earlier in the afternoon, Tarrant County reported their eighth flu-related death of the season.

As of this writing there have been 63 confirmed flu-related deaths in North Texas including 40 in Dallas County, eight in Tarrant County, six in Denton County, seven in Collin County and one each in Hunt and Wise counties.

With the flu season not expected to peak until February, health officials continue to urge those who have not yet received the flu vaccine to get one.
