Three state championships, 22 district titles, including 10 straight, a lifetime achievement award from the Hooks and now Gene Kasprzyk can add a baseball field named after him to his list of accomplishments.
"I've made so many lifelong friends in the baseball world. I am truly fortunate," Kaszpryk once said.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports officials with Sinton High School dedicated their baseball field to the longtime retired coach during a ceremony on Saturday. Kasprzyk led the Pirates for 29 seasons and won state championships in 1988, 1989 and 2002. The Pirates made seven appearances at the state tournament under Kasprzyk.
Friends, family and former players came to support their coach being honored before Sinton's game against Taft.
Former Pirates and MLB pitcher Mike Adams said he carried the work ethic Kasprzyk taught him into his professional career along with keeping his shoes and uniform clean.
"He built this field," Adams said, "he made it into what it is."
Sinton won Saturday's game 8-0.
