Shared Child Custody Awarded to Divorcing Same-Sex Couple

A state district judge has awarded shared custody of a 2-year-old girl to her same-sex parents, who are divorcing.

Bexar County state District Judge Renee Yanta awarded shared custody to Allison Flood Lesh and Kristi Lesh in San Antonio on Wednesday.

The San Antonio Express-News reports The Leshes married in Washington, D.C. in 2010 and Kristi Lesh, who was ariticificially inseminated, gave birth to the daughter in February 2013. But the Leshes separated later that year, and Flood Lesh filed for divorce in February 2014.

Flood Lesh's had no parental rights to the girl until they were restored under last week's landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling recognizing the right to same-sex marriage. Flood Lesh will now have weekend visits with the child two to three weekends a month.
