The break on the 18-inch main is under Channel Drive, in a residential area just north of Royal Lane.

Access to Channel Drive from Leahy Drive and Royal Lane has been blocked to traffic.

A large hole estimated to be about 10 feet by 5 feet could be seen at the work site. Retaining walls have been established inside the hole to hold back the crumbling walls.

City officials said crews hoped to have the sewer line repaired by Sunday.

While officials have not said what caused the collapse, heavy rain has been know to cause breaks in water lines in the past.
