Second Person Charged in Murder of Dallas Carter Graduate Ledajrick Rajae Cox

Suspect's cousin comes forward after drive-by shooting kills teen

A second person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a recent Dallas high school graduate.

An arrest warrant was issued for 26-year-old Cortney Ray Wright on Monday, alleging he drove the car in the drive-by shooting that killed 18-year-old Dallas Carter graduate Ledajrick (L.D.) Rajae Cox Sunday.

According to police, Wright's cousin, Davonte Wright, said he was in the car with Cortney and Jeremiah Robinson when they stopped at an Irving 7-Eleven Sunday night.

Davonte confirmed to police that he, Cortney and Jeremiah got into a verbal confrontation outside the convenience store after his cousin made comments about a woman as she walked toward the store.

Cox, who had been pumping gas into the woman's car, walked over and had some kind of discussion with the people in the car.

Davonte told police they "appeared to have the issue resolved" and said "they shook hands" before Cox went back to his vehicle.

Both groups then got in their cars and left. That's when police said Cortney pulled alongside the woman's car and Robinson opened fire, fatally wounding Cox and injuring two others.

Cox, who graduated from David W. Carter High School just five hours before the shooting, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where he died from injuries to his head and chest. The other two victims were treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Davonte Wright came forward Monday, police said, and told them his cousin pulled alongside the other vehicle and that Robinson rolled down the window, leaned out and fired several shots into the other car.

Police say they arrested a 17-year-old male Tuesday in connection with a shooting in Irving that left an 18-year-old man dead and two others wounded Sunday.

He added that he didn't know why his cousin drove the way he did or that Robinson was even carrying a handgun. He told police that after the shooting his cousin drove down Walnut Hill and pulled into Robinson's apartment complex.

Cortney Wright, who was arrested Wednesday night, faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held in the Irving Jail. A bond amount has not been provided. Jeremiah Robinson was charged with murder earlier in the week.
