According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper James Colunga, the bus was pulling across traffic onto westbound Texas 343 from Lone Oak Road at about 8 a.m. when it was hit by a pickup truck traveling eastbound on the highway.

Officials said heavy fog dropped the visibility to less than 500 feet and that the driver of the pickup never had a chance to stop or slow down.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Alejandro Camacho, was transported to Ennis Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries.

All three students on the bus — headed to Ennis Junior High and Ennis High schools — were transported to Ennis Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, Colunga said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities said three to four more subsequent crashes happned on Texas 34, which is closed from Interstate 45 to Farm-to-Market Road 148, authorities said.
