A young man from Flower Mound is making a huge impact on the lives of others, five years after his death.
A special golf tournament Saturday honors the life of 17-year-old Max Schwolert, who died from the flu in 2012.
The Love to the Max Golf Scramble will raise money for a scholarships for deserving students at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, where Max attended.
"I want Max to be remembered as the kid who made a difference in the world he lived in, and I think he did," said Melanie Schwolert, Max's mother.
Max passed away with his family by his side on Dec. 29, 2012, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Max was stricken with multiple illnesses after getting the flu while on vacation on the day after Christmas.
"I think about him almost every night before I go to bed," Schwolert said.

"He said, 'Mom, I am scared,' and I started to tear up, of course. I said, 'I'm scared, too,' and he said, 'It'll be OK,' and really that's the last thing he said to me," she said.
His family says Max's life has inspired many others to "Love to the Max," the name of the non-profit scholarship group.
This year, Love to the Max will award a $2,500 and $5,000 scholarship to two students.
"We feel like Max left a legacy in his 17 years, and he loved big, and we want that to be an encouragement to others," said Tom Schwolert, Max's father.
The golf scramble is scheduled for June 10 at Bridlewood Golf Club, where Max worked.
