San Antonio Deputy Accused of Murdering Man After Crash

A South Texas sheriff's deputy has been indicted on a murder count in the fatal shooting of a motorist after a minor crash in San Antonio.

Bexar County sheriff's Deputy Anthony Thomas was indicted Thursday in the August 2013 death of Mathew Jackson.

He was released on $50,000 bond, but a statement from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said he's been placed on paid administrative leave until his dismissal can be processed.

Thomas had previously admitted to shooting the 29-year-old Jackson as the unarmed man approached Thomas' car after they clipped side mirrors on Loop 1604. Thomas was off duty but in uniform at the time.

If convicted, Thomas could be sentenced to up to life in prison. A telephone call to his home was disconnected without comment.
