521 Rowlett residents signed a petition calling on the city to repeal its recently adopted smoking ordinance.
The city council will hold a special meeting, Monday, March 9 to determine how to proceed.
Council members could repeal the ordinance or let the voters decide in a May election.
The ordinance had been set to take place May 1.
It would ban smoking in most indoor public spaces, including restaurants and bars.
