Roger Staubach is a legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback, a successful businessman and a community leader.
Now, a petition drive is underway to get Staubach to run for President of Texas (a.k.a. Texas Governor).
Dallas resident David Smith started the Web site TexansForStaubach.com.
Smith wants the Pro Football Hall of Fame QB to run as a Republican because he thinks Staubach could knock out Gov. Rick Perry and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison for the nomination.
Smith thinks that would help the GOP avoid a nasty campaign.
Staubach is a Hutchison supporter and told Smith he has no interest in running for governor.
Smith's Web site reports, "We need a minimum of 5,000 registered voters to sign the petition to 'Draft Staubach' to run for Governor of Texas. Our goal will be to collect 50,000 signatures."

One thing we noticed right away, Smith fails to tell his potential supporters the timeline for getting the petitions signed and turned in to get Staubach on the ballot.
Good luck Mr. Smith!
