The Rockwall Police Department is investigating the the fatal vehicle accident that took place on Thursday off of Interstate Highway 30.
Rockwall police said they were called to the 800 block of Westbound I-30 at 2:03 p.m. on May 26 after receiving a report about a major accident involving a motorcycle.
When they arrived on the scene, officers said they discovered the driver of the motorcycle in critical condition. He was transported to Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall where he was later pronounced dead. The name of the victim has not been released.
According to police, the motorcyclist struck a mattress that was on the road, which caused him to veer off the roadway and strike a light pole.
Police said there are witness reports of the mattress coming out of the bed of a dark-colored Ford F-150 traveling in the center lane.
