I know, DeAndre Jordan won’t play for the Mavs in 2016. But another week, and another shred of evidence that the reasons for his absence were illegal and unsavory.
Last week the NBA fined the Clippers for improperly recruiting Jordan during his about-face from the Mavs and to the Clippers. Now, as a hint that the whole episode was ugly for everyone involved, Jordan has fired his agent.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Jordan this week fired his representatives at Relativity Sports, namely agent Dan Fegan. He’s also the agent for Chandler Parsons, and at times during his career also represented Jason Kidd and Monta Ellis.
The Mavs – at least until recently – had such a good relationship with Fegan that some speculated their drafting of his client (Satnam Singh) was a goodwill gesture further paving the way for him to steer Jordan to Dallas.
Jordan, whom we now know is a bit of a nut job, has now been with three agents in seven years. And don’t shed too many tears for Relativity Sports, as the company will get four percent of the player’s $88 million contract with the Clippers.
I guess it's supposed to soothe our sore feelings that a team has been fined and an agent has been fired in the wake of the Mavs being left at the altar. But, nope, it doesn't. Every time they get outplayed at center next season it'll be a grim reminder of what we thought we had.
And somehow the Clippers and Fegan will surely survive this mess better than the Mavs.
