Rider Gets 30 Years for Attacking Texas Bus Driver

A bus passenger apparently upset about North Texas traffic delays has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for attacking the driver.

Carlos Fields, whose criminal history includes assault and robbery, was convicted Wednesday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 2013 incident in Fort Worth.

Investigators say Fields, while on the Fort Worth Transportation Authority bus, loudly complained about traffic delays, swore at the driver and eventually attacked him.

Jurors sentenced the 40-year-old Fields, who struck the driver in the face and threatened him with a knife, as a habitual offender.

Fields also has prior convictions for criminal mischief, criminal trespass, possession of a prohibited weapon and harassment of a public servant.
