RG3 Writes That His Redskins Career Has ‘Come to an End'

Robert Griffin III says he is done as a member of the Washington Redskins.

Griffin wrote on Instagram on Monday: "After 4 years, my days as a part of this team have come to an end."

He also tweeted: "It was a blessing guys. I just want to say thank you."

Washington made clear it would part ways with Griffin by Wednesday to get his 2016 contract off the books before it became guaranteed for about $16 million.

So it was just a matter of when a move would come, and there were various media reports the team would be releasing him Monday.

As soon as he is cut, Griffin becomes a free agent and can sign anywhere.

His departure from Washington would be the culmination of a sudden rise and stunning fall for the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, who didn't play at all last season for the NFC East champions.

NFL free agency begins Wednesday.
