Retail Gas Prices Tumble Across Texas

Retail gasoline prices across Texas have tumbled 16 cents this week to settle at $2.15 per gallon.

AAA Texas on Tuesday reported the statewide figure compares to the nationwide average of $2.38 per gallon, a decline of 15 cents in the past week.

Drivers in Corpus Christi have the most expensive gasoline in Texas at $2.27 per gallon. The association survey found the cheapest gasoline in Texas was in Fort Worth at $1.98 per gallon though NBC 5 received reports of a gallon of unleaded costing $1.91 per gallon in South Arlington and $1.69 in Keller.

AAA Texas predicts 8.1 million Texans will travel 50 miles or more away from home in the time period from Tuesday through Jan. 4. That's about 4 percent higher than last year.

Experts say comparatively low prices for retail gasoline have been helping consumers.
