Recent Rain Boosts North Texas Lake Levels

Fishing may be more plentiful as lake levels see big improvements

The Dean family is spending their weekend camping and fishing at Joe Pool Lake. Thanks to recent heavy rain, Jason Dean likes his chances to get some bites.

"The lakes are looking a lot better," Dean said. "The rain and the snow has helped a bunch."

Although Joe Pool Lake does not historically drop as much as other area lakes, park officials said the recent levels this high are rare.

"You look back last year, the first 80 days of the year we had two inches of rain," NBC 5 Meteorologist Brian James said. "So far this year, we're coming up on nine inches of rain for the first 80 days."

Rainfall totals have tended to be higher in areas south of Dallas.
